The author of The Lightning Thief, Rick Riordan
        Rick Riordan was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 5,1964.  Riordan is currently 45 years old.   He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.  He double - majored in English.  His first job was teaching in public and private schools.  In 2002, Saint Mary's Hall  awarded him the school's first Master Teaching Award.  Reluctently leaving teaching,  he then became an author.  He has so far written 14 books.  Two more books are planning to be released in 2010.  Some of his famous writings are: Percy and the Olympians series, The 39 Clues Series, and the Tres Navarre Series.  Originally, The Lightning Thief was just a story Rick had written based on his son's disease and interest in Greek mythology.  His son told his dad to make it into a book.  The Lightning Thief movie will be released on February 12, 2010.  Today,  Rick Riordan lives in San Antonio, Texas,  with his wife, Becky Riordan, and their kids Haley and Patrick Riordan.  He continues to write books as a full time job.
